FAQs
About me and what I shoot
Where are you based?
I'm Italian, based in Italy and working between Italy, Portugal and the rest of Europe. I travel constantly — Lisbon, Naples, Milan and on commission far beyond. Sessions happen wherever the work needs to happen.
Can we shoot in an abandoned place?
Yes — it's one of the things I'm best known for. Over the years I've built a private archive of derelict villas, faded interiors, and forgotten estates across Portugal and Italy. I handle the access, the permissions where needed and the timing for the right light. You show up ready.
What kind of photography do you offer?
Four practice areas: Portraits & Boudoir, Aerial & Travel, Commercial & Brands and Motion (cinematic video). Every project is built to feel like a film scene — atmospheric, emotional, timeless.
Do you photograph weddings?
No. I focus on portraits, aerial, commercial and motion work. I'm happy to refer you to colleagues who specialize in weddings.
Do you travel for shoots?
Yes — extensively. I'm available across Italy, Portugal and the rest of Europe. I've shot from Lisbon and Cascais to Naples, Milan and on commission as far as North Africa. Travel costs are included in the quote depending on distance.
BOOKING
How can I book a session?
You can book directly through the Contact page or by emailing mariovastola@rusalkoe.com. I reply to every inquiry within 48 hours with availability, package options, and next steps.
How far in advance should I book?
Ideally 1–2 weeks in advance for personal sessions, and 2–3 weeks for commercial or travel projects (which require planning, permits, and crew coordination).
Do you require a deposit?
Yes — a non-refundable deposit secures the booking date. The remaining balance is paid on the day of the session or upon delivery, depending on the project agreement.
Can I reschedule or cancel my session?
Rescheduling is possible if requested at least 72 hours before the scheduled session. Deposits are non-refundable but can be applied to a future date in case of unavoidable circumstances (weather, illness, travel disruption).
THE SESSION
What's included in a photoshoot?
Each session includes:
A pre-shoot consultation to define mood, location, and outfits
The shoot itself (1–3 hours depending on the package)
Professional editing and color grading in cinematic style
A private online gallery for delivery and download
Premium and cinematic packages may also include video reels and cloud backups.
Do you shoot indoors or outdoors?
Both. Outdoor sessions take advantage of natural light and environment — particularly strong in Italy, Portugal and across Mediterranean Europe. Indoor and studio shoots offer full control of atmosphere and privacy — ideal for boudoir and editorial work.
What gear do you shoot with?
Two Fujifilm bodies (XH2 and XT3) with Fujinon prime lenses — 16mm, 23mm and 35mm. No zooms; portrait work demands physical closeness. For aerial, a DJI Mini 5 Pro. Lighting, tripods, and additional kit scaled to the project.
Are you insured?
Yes — public liability insurance and commercial drone certification valid across the EU.
What languages do you work in?
Italian (native), English (C2), Spanish (C1), Russian (B1, conversational) and Portuguese (A1).
DELIVERY
How many photos will I receive?
It depends on the package:
Basic sessions: 15–25 fully edited photos
Cinematic sessions: 30–50 edited photos
Premium sessions: 45–75 edited photos
All final images are delivered in high resolution, ready for print and digital use.
How do I receive my photos?
All photos are delivered through a private, password-protected online gallery. You can view, download, and share them; the gallery remains active for 30 days.
Can I request specific edits or retouching?
Light retouching and cinematic color grading are included in every package. Requests for additional or detailed retouching (body modifications, background changes, composite work) can be discussed and priced individually.
Will my photos be published on your website or social media?
Only with your consent. I respect client privacy — especially for boudoir and personal sessions. You will always be asked before any image is shared publicly and you have the right to refuse.
Do you provide videos or reels?
Yes — cinematic short reels are available as an add-on for most sessions. They're ideal for social media, personal branding, or advertising campaigns.
